Another Sign Of Aging

Stylish and sophisticated
For all of my 65+ years I have never owned a pair of house slippers.  If I removed my shoes at home I either went barefoot or wore socks.  In my mind I have always associated slippers with old people.  I remember my grandfather coming to visit and always wearing slippers in the house.  Or driving down the street and seeing some old coot walking his dog wearing slippers; that sight always made me chuckle.

Then two things happened.  We have always had hardwood floors on our ground floor and carpet upstairs.  Last year we removed the upstairs carpet and had the hardwood restored.  I noticed the difference in the winter.  Even sitting with my feet up on the ottoman I could feel more cold than before.  The other thing was playing with our dog, Abby.  She has this routine where she likes to bait me into chasing her from room to room until one of us wears out.  Ok, until I wear out.  This wasn't a problem on carpet, but on hardwood the footing could become precarious while wearing socks.  I have to think about breaking hips and things like that.

I mentioned to Mrs. Grumpy that I might like to consider a pair of slippers.  She takes this as a firm decision and quickly comes home with a pair for me.  Slide your foot in, open in the back.  I took two steps and walked right out of them.  They would work if I wanted to spend the rest of my life shuffling.  So I politely decline her choice and shop for myself.  Bought a pair much like those you see above.  Soft, warm, good traction.

Try not to snicker when you see me in the front yard in my slippers waiting for Abby to poop.

Funny because I love my slippers and have had them for years. They are handy to "slip" on when you have to run to the garage or outside for a quick minute, warm and etc...You are 65 ya know. :):)

I have slippers and wear them outside/out in public all the time. Most comfortable shoes in the world. I love being old.

I won't snicker until I see you in the front yard in your slippers & Abby's waiting for you to poop. You know, Thursday.

Too funny. I used to wear just socks too until I got plantar faciitis and then my heal hurt so bad I needed more cushion. The only comfy pair of slippers ended up being fur lined Crocs; been wearing them ever since.

Shuffle on man, shuffle on.

Same shit happened to me this year. I wear them all the time although not outside. As someone who doesn't like wearing socks but wood floors, they are ELITE. Slippers get a bad rap but they are terrific.

I haven't gone the slipper route yet although I do own a swanky sheepskin-lined pair I bought from LLBean years ago. We have carpeting throughout the house but I suppose the time may come that I will have to wear slippers instead of socks. Or maybe not.
