The above picture was recently posted on a social media site. The pro gun people are posting pictures of everything; rocks, Toyotas, knives, toasters, baseball bats, the kitchen sink, and labeling them "assault weapons". The inference of course is that any of these things can kill people, not just guns.
And of course they are right. Any of those objects could kill you. But let's say a bad guy decides to attack me with a rock. If he throws it at me I might duck and it misses. Or I might deflect it with my arm or hand. I might be nimble enough to side step it and it misses. If he attacks me with it in his hand with the intention of bashing me in the head, I at least have a fighting chance of defending myself and warding him off.
This, on the other hand, is a 5.56 mm Full Metal Jacket bullet. It is popularly referred to as the NATO round because it is the ammo issued to American and NATO troops for use in battle. When fired from an assault weapon it is, when leaving the muzzle, traveling at a speed of approx. 3,000 feet per second. It is designed for one purpose and one purpose only. It will destroy the target upon impact, rendering that target dead or incapacitated beyond further action. You cannot dodge or deflect a 5.56 round. You will not see it coming. You will not hear it coming. You will have no warning. You will be dead or have large pieces of your body separated from the whole.
Now what kind of moron still wants to argue the similarity?

Tostar 7405Great post and points. This topic is a never ending debate.
I had not read your blog when I wrote mine. you are, as usual, right on target (a fitting image, no?).
You are not nimble enough.
Gun Violence is Not a Republican Problem, It's a Democratic Problem.
