Up until now I have been loathe to write about religion. No real good can come of it. Doing so will only piss off somebody. But there are a couple of things about the new Pope that disturb me. If you're offended, I'm truly sorry, but I think these are issues worth noting.
Pope Francis I has been quoted as saying that gays adopting children equates to "child abuse". I'm sorry, to me child abuse is what Catholic priests have been doing to children for decades, then covering it up and allowing pedophile priests to stay active, moving them to a new location to continue their abuse. I don't suppose a 76 yr. old priest is going to drag the whole monolithic church into the 21st century, but his 16th century views trouble me.
Then there is the Pope's refusal to speak out against Argentina's repressive and brutal junta that ruled the country from 1976 to 1983. Many people "disappeared". The new pope not only didn't speak out at the time, he has even been sued for his possible connection to the disappearance of two Jesuit priests.
Maybe he will be a great leader who will accomplish wonderful things. I think he has some skeletons that need to be addressed.

No question, he is part of the old order in his views. I guess with 2/3 of the voting cardinals chosen by Benedict, what else could you get? I hope being Pope may 'liberate" his thinking.
I no longer identify myself as a Catholic, and I don't understand why people continue to put so much credence into one man. I was confounded by the news coverage and the crowds. I don't care about the Pope. I put more value in the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel than anyone who heads up the church. The entire organization is full of hypocrisy, and this Pope is the perfect choice for it.
Religion, the biggest hoax in the world.
Why are you surprised? There will NEVER be a high-ranking Catholic official who is pro-gay anything.
I didn't say I am surprised, just disappointed.
so true...to it all.
