I'm Not As Dumb As I Look
Whoever did this truck failed miserably on the paint. It had numerous chips and the left front fender had a patch where it looked like dirt was on the fender and they just painted over it, leaving the dirt in the paint. I know what to look for in paint jobs and this one was BAD.
We waited for the truck to come up for bid and I told The Big Guy that they won't get more than $8-10K for it. We noticed when it was in the staging lane that it was drawing a lot of lookers. But we also noticed that many of them were looking at the same flaws we noticed. Didn't seem to matter. The bidding opened at $5,000 and by the time all was said and done the hammer dropped at $16,000.
After seeing it I was prepared to go to $9,000 which after commissions, taxes and transport would have left me with about $11,000 in it. I think I could have gotten $13-$15,000 for it. But at $16K there was not enough meat left on the bone in a resale situation. The only thing I can think is that someone really wanted it and plans on keeping it and driving it. If the new owner wants it to look good he needs to repaint it.
