Rocky Mountain High

Isn't that $80 an ounce?  Bargain!!!
Anybody remember back in the 70's when Coors beer gained cult like status in the Eastern United States?  Coors became so desirable because it was virtually unattainable.  If I remember correctly, due to freshness issues, it wasn't shipped west of the Mississippi.  The aura of this beer made from fresh spring water, coupled with it not being available, gave it a special status.  Getting your hands on a six pack of Coors was like finding gold.  Anytime you knew someone traveling west of St. Louis they always traveled with your order for Coors.  I can remember friends gathering for parties when word spread that the Coors had arrived in town.

Now we have the 2013 version of the same phenomena.  On Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2014 pot may be legally sold from storefronts in Colorado.  That's pot that any adult can walk in and buy.  No prescription, no doctor's order; pot legally sold solely for recreational use.  You still can't smoke in public, or supply it to a minor, or take it out of state.  Some observers are already predicting an early shortfall in inventory and a spike in prices.  But as more stores open and begin growing the stuff, market forces will prevail and the market will dictate the price.

So like Coors back in the day, Colorado is once again the go to place for a precious commodity.  I anticipate a lot of people driving to Colorado, buying the weed and driving it back to their home states, carefully obeying all traffic laws on the trip home.  Which should lead to more plentiful supplies around the country and dropping prices.  When other states see Colorado reaping the benefits of pot tourism, legalization is going to spread.

Until then, who's up for a road trip to Denver?

I'll just wait it out until Washington starts selling it this summer. I asked Tony what he would think if I bought some. "Just don't tell Faith!" he said.

Yeah. I'm in. They should sell it at Yager/Millett.

Yes, because pot is so unattainable in states where it is illegal...

Maybe I'll get all hopped up and write a blog post; can't get any worse than they are :-) Party on Wayne!

Ace, not attainable at reasonable prices.

Blog posts while high? I like that idea.

Hilarious! Obviously, none of you have medically disabled friends or family that have been able to get it.

Bill, the neighborhood dealer is going to be too expensive. Check his prices; maybe the party is at your house.
