|Isn't that $80 an ounce? Bargain!!!|
Now we have the 2013 version of the same phenomena. On Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2014 pot may be legally sold from storefronts in Colorado. That's pot that any adult can walk in and buy. No prescription, no doctor's order; pot legally sold solely for recreational use. You still can't smoke in public, or supply it to a minor, or take it out of state. Some observers are already predicting an early shortfall in inventory and a spike in prices. But as more stores open and begin growing the stuff, market forces will prevail and the market will dictate the price.
So like Coors back in the day, Colorado is once again the go to place for a precious commodity. I anticipate a lot of people driving to Colorado, buying the weed and driving it back to their home states, carefully obeying all traffic laws on the trip home. Which should lead to more plentiful supplies around the country and dropping prices. When other states see Colorado reaping the benefits of pot tourism, legalization is going to spread.
Until then, who's up for a road trip to Denver?
